1. Rally Star Interview with Wayne Bell
In this edition our interview is with rally driver Wayne Bell, an Aussie Rally Legend who has driven everything from Turbo HDT Geminis to Sprinters and Hyundais. Most would agree that Wayne is our best ever rally driver never to win the Australian Rally Championship. To view the interview with Wayne click on http://sfars.com/interviews-with-the-stars/.
2. Seven sleeps to go !
It’s just 7 days before the first of SFARS assessment heats get underway. Heat 1 kicks off on Tuesday, November 30th at Oran Park. Heat 2 is held the following day, Wednesday, December 1st. The finals will then be held on January 25th, in time to enable us to launch one lucky star into the Australian rally scene for 2005. From then on the winner will have around 6-8 weeks to prepare for the first rally event in their newly acquired rally prize – A Subaru WRX or Lancer Evo Rally car plus start money to the value of $45,000.
3. Rally Lecture Series
For all those who have entered in the Search For A Rally Star and are pursuing their rally dream, we have an exciting rally lecture series in store. For the night of the first SFARS assessment heat (November 30th, 2004) we have put together and amazing line up of experienced rally folk who will share with the Rally Star hopefuls, and their guest, a plethora of knowledge on the various aspects of the amazing sport of rallying. The Lecturers and subjects are as follows:
1. Graham Humphreys – Event organisation and competitor eligibility
2. Bruce Garland – Rally Car and team preparation
3. Ben Ruggles – Tyre technology
4. Peter Whitten (TBC) – Rallying today and the press
5. Brett Middleton – Seeking and attaining sponsorship
6. Lyndall Drake – Co-driving and pace noting
7. Spencer Lowndes – Driving techniques and competition at ARC level.
4. Invitation
As a gift to just a handful of our newsletter subscribers, the team at Search For A Rally Star would like to invite just seven dedicated rally enthusiasts to our Rally Lecture night. The Lectures will start at 6pm sharp on November 30 at Oran Park and should prove to be a very exciting and informative night for those who have a real passion for rallying. To be included, just email us at info@sfars.com or call us on 02 9999 3093 and tell us, in 25 words or less, why you would like to come. If tickets were for sale, we estimate that the night would be worth well over $100. If you would like to be there, you must be quick, it’s first in – best dressed ! Also, journalists who would like to attend are welcome to enquire.
5. Who can come up with a better name than “STAR DUST”?
We had a huge number of suggestions for an alternative to our newsletter name ‘Star Dust’. Due to too many people writing back and saying they liked the current name, Frank has decided to be terribly boring and keep it. However, as promised, we have awarded a prize to the next best suggestion. Some of the suggestions were : Slideways – Alan; Talkin’ dirty (We think that could be tweaked a little to Torque’n'Dirty – SFARS), Reach for the stars, Dirt slingers – Stefan ; Rally Around, Eat My Dust, Ridin Rough – Making Trax / Tracks, Hitting The Frog ‘N’ Toad, – Hailey ; The Dashboard, Hairpin Write, Pace Notes, Rooster Tale – Peter ; Rally Rap – Ian ; Back seat driver, the nut behind the wheel, The Need for Speed – Skye ; Dust Lust – Anna ; The Forest Frenzy, Gravel Gripping News, The Forest Thunder, All Four Paws – Ben And the winners is …… Stefan who suggested Talkin Dirty. (Definitely some warped minds who chose this at SFARS). Congratulations Stefan you win a SFARS Rally Cap and ‘How to Start Rallying’ book. Thanks to all those who shared their ideas with us. Regards, Letitia and Lisa – SFARS Admin.
6. HOLLYWOOD – Stars, glitter and all that !
We are happy to announce that the SFARS heats and finals will be professionally filmed. Gold Marquee Entertainment have the gig and we are excited about the prospect of getting a rally show produced on to celluloid which will be produced into a number of formats. All the entrants we have spoken to are extremely excited, maybe even ~~ nervous ~~ , about getting their dream shot at rally stardom along with a huge chance at winning the generous 4wd turbo rally car and start money package. Keep an eye out for it on your telly when we go to air.
7. Rally Australia.
The final round of the World Rally Championship was recently run in Perth, Western Australia. Here, rally fans witnessed an awesome display by two of Australia’s best rally drivers. Chris Atkinson and Cody Crocker featured in the top eight placings as well as obtaining some very rare WRC points to go with it. The top eight were : 1. Sebastian LOEB 10 Pts 2. Harri ROVANPERA 8 Pts 3. Francois DUVAL 6 Pts 4. Mikko HIRVONEN 5 Pts 5. Chris ATKINSON (Aus) 4 Pts 6. Xavier PONS 3 Pts 7. Cody CROCKER (Aus) 2 Pts 8. Toshihiro ARAI 1 Pt. Well done to Chris and Cody. Great stuff !
