What can I do to get ready for SFARS ?

You may be wondering, what could I do ? ……. To give myself the best possible chance of winning SFARS ?

Well here are some suggestions.

  1. Join a ‘Cams’ or ‘Amsag’ affiliated Car Club in your area and mingle with those who know more than you.
  2. Learn as much as you can about rallying from sites such as CAMS how to get started web page.
  3. Read or Subscribe to a rally publication such as Rallysport Magazine in hard copy or Rallysport News on the web.
  4. Practice Practice. (But not on the streets!) This can be hard, especially if you are bound by the borders of one of our major cities.
You could participate in a rally driving school such as Sideways Action.
Alternatively, if you have access to a farm within cooee of your place and you have permission to go paddock bashing, then great !
  5. Watch Channel Ten’s RPM as well as Fox Sports and SBS to keep in the know and up to date on the latest World and Australian rally action.
  6. Keep fit and eat well. You don’t have to be an Ian Thorpe or Ky Hurst, but light training, within your limits, will hold you in good stead and help keep the mind sharp.
  7. Develop your plan for the SFARS assessment days, your future in rallying and beyond.
  8. Set yourself up for doing the absolute best you can with mind, body, spirit and attitude! Read books and listen to publications on self improvement, motivation and the like. Many great sports people have succeeded with thanks to various preparation, planning, visualisation and sports psychology techniques.
  9. Obtain as much support as you can from your friends, family and community. Write to the local press and let them know what you are trying to achieve. You might even know of a local business or mentor that would consider sponsoring you to enter the Search. If you can get them some publicity in the local paper or radio, then it’s a win win for both!
  10. Subscribe to one of the email rally e-groups and forums such as ACT Brisbane NSW SA TAS Vic or WA to receive support from your peers and stay in the know.Good Luck !
